At the top of the waterfall is a vast karst lake covering an area of 15,000 square meters, and the waterfall forms on a calcified dam that stretches over 100 meters. This location was used for the ending credits scene of the 1983 version of “Journey to the West.”

Day 3: Guiyang – Mount Fanjing (Approximately 4 hours drive) – Tongren Jiangkou (Approximately 30 minutes drive), Overnight in Tongren Jiangkou

Itinerary Description:

  • Mount Fanjing (Minimum visiting time of 3 hours, not including the shuttle bus 20 RMB per person + insurance 10 RMB per person + round-trip cable car 140 RMB per person). Mount Fanjing is located in the transition zone from the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to the Xiangxi Hills. Its peak, Golden Summit, stands at an altitude of about 2,493 meters and is the highest point of the Wuling Mountains. The name of the mountain comes from the Buddhist term “Fanjing,” meaning “Pure Land of Heaven.” Mount Fanjing is a member of the “Man and Biosphere Reserve Network” and is rich in biodiversity. It not only preserves one of the best remaining primary forests on Earth at the same latitude but is also the only habitat for the extremely rare Guizhou golden snub-nosed monkey, which is rarer than the giant panda. In 2018, Mount Fanjing was inscribed on the World Heritage List. The core scenic spots are concentrated on the summit plateau, with the iconic mushroom-shaped rock standing out prominently. Adjacent to it, the Golden Summit, at an elevation of 2,493 meters, is the highest point in the scenic area. There are several Buddhist temples and cultural sites on the mountain. One of the most striking features is the split peak connected by a sky bridge, which has earned it the nickname “Sky City” of Guizhou, China.
  • Note: In case of visitor limits, cable car closure, or other unforeseeable circumstances that prevent access to Mount Fanjing, the itinerary will be changed to visit the Yamu Valley Scenic Area instead, and no refunds will be provided by the travel agency. The Yamu Valley Scenic Area is located about 6 kilometers away from Mount Fanjing. The canyon trail extends alongside the river, surrounded by lush greenery, and is dotted with waterfalls. The air is rich in negative ions, earning it the reputation of being a natural oxygen bar. It is an ideal place for adventure, discovery, tranquility, and relaxation, and has been praised by poets as “a warm winter and cool summer paradise, with clear water and beautiful scenery in the Yamu Valley.”

Meals:

  • Breakfast: Hotel breakfast.
  • Lunch: Group meal.
  • Dinner: On your own.

Hotel:

  • Tongren Jiangkou Hotel Twin-Share Standard Room (Possible hotels: Fanjiang Impression Hotel, Vienna Smart Hotel, Guiju Ruison Grand Hotel, Bohr Hotel, Fan Tian Yishu Chunqiu She Hotel, Guiju Dengfeng Hotel, Yuelya Yajuyu Hotel, Xi Yue Fan Hua Hotel)

Day 4: Tongren Jiangkou – Zhenyuan (Approximately 2.5 hours drive) – Xijiang (Approximately 2 hours drive), Overnight in Xijiang

Itinerary:

  • Zhenyuan Ancient Town (Minimum free time of 1 hour, not including the ferry boat 20 RMB per person round trip). The ancient town is characterized by its winding river, which meanders through the city in an “S” shape, with the old government city on the north bank and the old military city on the south bank, resembling a Taiji diagram when viewed from afar. Both cities were built during the Ming Dynasty, and remnants of the city walls and gates still exist. The town is known for its waterways and streets, as well as its unique architecture, and has been described as a “simple yet precious, elegant yet charming” ink painting.
  • Xijiang Miao Village (Minimum visiting time of 1 hour + minimum free time of 1 hour, not including the shuttle bus 20 RMB per person + insurance 10 RMB per person for the four sections). This is a place to experience and understand the long history and development of the Miao people. Often referred to as an open-air museum, it showcases the epic history of the Miao people and is known as the “Miao Capital.” The village is set amidst verdant valleys, with rows of stilt houses and Miao people dressed in traditional attire, providing a comprehensive experience of the local ethnic culture.

Tips:

  1. Weather and Accommodation: Guizhou Province experiences frequent rain and fog. Xijiang Miao Village is situated in the mountains, and rooms may be humid and prone to mosquito activity.
  2. Accommodation Facilities: The accommodations within the Miao Village are mostly guesthouses, and while most rooms have air conditioning and hot water heaters, they may not match the standards of urban hotels in terms of facilities and soundproofing.
  3. Room Allocation: Due to the limited number of rooms in each guesthouse, members of the same tour group may be split across 1-2 different guesthouses.
  4. Luggage Handling: Visitors will need to carry their luggage for about 10-20 minutes on foot to reach their accommodation (no luggage carts are available). The travel agency recommends leaving large luggage on the vehicle and bringing only valuables and essential toiletries into the village.
  5. Room Types: Most guesthouses offer rooms with scenic views or back onto the mountain. Rooms with views tend to be noisier, while those facing the mountain are quieter.
  6. Food Options: Due to Xijiang’s remote location, there are limited food options, and the dining standards may be lower than those found in Guiyang. Breakfasts served at guesthouses are typically simple meals.
  • Mount Fanjing (Minimum visiting time of 3 hours, not including the shuttle bus 20 RMB per person + insurance 10 RMB per person + round-trip cable car 140 RMB per person). Mount Fanjing is located in the transitional area between the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the Xiangxi Hills.
